May 22 (Bloomberg) — The Pentagon wants to kill the A-10 plane, also known as “The Warthog,” but the House is bringing it back to life. The A-10, an ungainly ground support plane that’s basically a flying gatling gun, is no longer made but it is still in use. The Pentagon wants to save about $4 billion by retiring all 283 of the planes. No other plane has the same kind of armor that allows it to fly low enough to give troops real cover on the ground. The House is voting on Defense authorization on Thursday — and this plane is in it.
